The
place the Sulby river Isle Of Man, time September 2000, the river was in
flood and we had a good run of sea trout and salmon, I was fishing my favourite rod a 7ft carbon fibre spinning rod , with 10lbs line, my bait
was 2 good lob worms, ( WE ONLY USE SMALL RODS ON OUR RIVERS IN THE ISLE
OF MAN) I cast out into a nice run and I just lifted my rod a little and
I thought dam hit a snag, then the snag started to move I
then put on a little pressure and bingo whole hell let loose, the fish
screamed line off my reel and shot off down river like a bat out of
hell, not being as nimble as I used to be I struggled to get to the
bank, just about made it when my friend took the rod off me and held the
fish while I got onto firm ground, the fish did everything but I was
determined to land this one as I could tell it was a good fish, I fought
the fish for about 10 to 12mins, then my friend did a good job of netting
it, it was a beauty, a 10 lb 3oz sea trout fresh as they come full of
sea lice, then I noticed it had had a narrow escape from a seal as it
had teeth marks about 2 in from the tail, but I was very glad the seal
had missed his lunch and I had caught the best sea trout of my life, and
my wife and I have had some very good meals, and I have some happy
memories. Frank |
